Over the next couple of weeks we will be releasing a series of short BIOs to gain an insight into each member of our team. First up, we sat down with our Managing Director, Ian, and asked a few questions to get to know him a little bit better.

Favourite Quote?

When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.

What is something that [people in your industry] have to deal with, that you want to fix?

Multiple data formats for the same data on different interfaces. I would love to create a universal interface using artificial intelligence (AI).

What do you do at your company?

Whatever is needed.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

Helping others succeed. Seeing clients companies thrive as a result of the work we have done for them. Being my own boss.

What are your credentials/past experience, for working in your position?

M.Sc. In I.T. Ridiculous self belief, at least most of the time.

What do you like about working at Tad Web Solutions?

The people I work with internally, clients, and the people I network with.

What’s your background? Where did you grow up? What where you doing before working at Tad Web Solutions?

I was born and grew up in Easterside, Middlesbrough and I am a proud Teessider. After School/Sixth Form I obtained an honours B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Nottingham, which I put to good use by working as a cashier/settler in Ladbrokes. A couple of years later I became an Experimental Physical Chemist at ICI Advanced Materials at Wilton. As they started pulling out of pure research, I left to start a career as a lecturer at Longlands College (which became Teesside Tertiary College and then part of Middlesbrough College).
After teaching for 11 year and finding that teaching had become about paperwork and teaching to pass an exam, I quit and went back to University, at Teesside to study my Masters in I.T. I then freelanced doing Web Design before setting up Tad Web Solutions in 2011.

What are your values that drive you?

For myself, I want to change the Work to be a place that values all regardless of background, creed, colour, sexuality or gender. want to change the world to one that allows people to be themselves, to give according to their abilities and to receive according to their needs. Also, I believe that technology and automation has the ability to free humanity and drudgery and want, and to open up a World of plenty and free time to pursue interests and grow the individual.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work time?

Walking in the North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire Dales and Lake District. I also enjoy spending time with a close group of friends and family. As well as this I enjoy reading and running.

What is your ambition/dream in life?

To change the World to end poverty, homelessness, war and reverse climate change. To create a society where, unlike now, the next generation are in a better position than us economically. Change the economic system so a 2o-hour week becomes the norm with Universal Basic Income and Universal Basic Services.
